The PMWC 2022 Luminary honorees are Dr. Stephen F. Kingsmore (Rady Children’s Institute for Genomic Medicine), for his innovation in rapid neonatal molecular diagnoses using whole-genome sequencing; Dr. Albert Bourla (Pfizer) for his extraordinary achievement in leading the record-time development of a vaccine against the coronavirus, Dr. Tal Zaks (Moderna) for his role in clinical development and global approval of Moderna’s mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, and Dr. Stephen Hoge (Moderna) for overseeing R&D of the first antiviral synthetic mRNA vaccines ever created, including one against COVID-19. The PMWC Pioneer Award is given to a venerable individual whose foresight and ground-breaking contributions to precision medicine propelled the movement in earlier years, allowing it to gain momentum to evolve into the standard of care that it is becoming today. The PMWC 2022 Pioneer honoree is Dr. Katalin Karikó  (BioNTech RNA Pharmaceuticals), the co-developer of the synthetic mRNA technology enabling the first two FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccines.
