New Research Explores Association of Poverty with Differential Gene Expression; Results Presented at American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting Suggest Poverty Status Influences Gene Expression in the Immune System

New research released on October 18, 2021 suggests that poverty status may influence human cardiovascular and immune health through changes in gene expression and that the effects of these changes differ in women and men. These findings highlight the potential impact a leading socioeconomic factor like poverty may have on gene activity and health, according to Nicole Arnold, PhD, a geneticist at Wayne State University (Michigan), who presented the study results at the American Society of Human Genetics 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting (October18-22).
