On January 10, 2024, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) opened a national competition to select up to 25 early career scientists to join the newest cohort of the Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program. The program aims to increase diversity in the professoriate by supporting early career researchers who show exceptional promise of becoming successful academic scientists, which includes the potential to build and contribute to an equitable and inclusive lab culture. Hanna Gray Fellows receive up to $1.5 million in support for up to eight years spanning postdoctoral training through the transition to starting a lab as faculty. The program is designed to give fellows the freedom to explore new scientific territory and seek answers to challenging scientific questions.
